This article is part of a series of articles from my co-workers on their favorite nameplates. Dave Gilles, our guest blogger this week, chose a component part for the automotive industry which he has had experience of running in the production environment.
In choosing a favorite nameplate, I opted for one with longevity, the Ford VIN (vehicle indentifaction number) plate. This part has been produced several millions of times and routinely ships across the United States and North America to various Ford assembly locations. The decoration is basic with a silver metallic background over a low gloss and coined Ford logo. The VIN plate is located in the upper dashboard and can be viewed from outside the car or truck thru the windshield. A matching undecorated vin plate is included with a new car packet. A lot has changed in the 30 years since I was a young operator screening sheets of Ford VIN plates, but it's nice to know some things remain the same.
