Environmental Health and Safety Manager Overall Purpose of Position

Under the leadership of the North American Vice President of Human Resources, the Regional Health and Safety Manager will apply knowledge in their field to ensure associate safety, occupational health and regulatory compliance with environmental health and safety requirements. This candidate will initiate, implement, analyze, report, and oversee the safety programs for all North American facilities. 

Environmental Health and Safety Manager Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Lead implementation of facility safety programs, to include developing safe work methods, procedures, and policies in accordance with Company guidelines.
  • Prepare charts, graphs, and reports to communicate environmental, health and safety related metrics.
  • Ensure all regulatory permits are obtained and maintained, complete mandatory environmental related reporting as required.
  • Identify and evaluate potential safety hazards, making recommendations for corrective actions as necessary.
  • Perform job hazard analysis, train associates on required PPE and safety procedures
  • Measure and evaluate environmental, health and safety related policies and procedures for effectiveness, providing suggestions for improvement.
  • Lead the plant environmental and safety teams and on-site emergency response teams.
  • Responsible for the company Workers Compensation program, including mandatory record-keeping, injury reporting and monitoring or work related illnesses/injuries.
  • Perform root cause analysis on all near misses, accidents, and injuries to implement corrective actions and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety related regulations, maintaining a proactive approach to prevent violations/citations.
  • Prepare presentations for monthly leadership team review.
  • Lead proactive safety culture in all facilities.
  • Partner with operations and engineering during launch or engineering changes (process, equipment, layout, etc) to ensure safety compliance and associate awareness/training.
  • Remain current with all environmental, health and safety related regulations, technologies, and trends.
  • Ensure compliance of all associates, vendors, contractors and visitors with environmental, health and safety related standards, policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate and cooperate with audits (i.e. certifications, customer audits, etc) responding to requests for information and answering environmental, health and safety related questions.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Environmental Health and Safety Manager Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of environmental, health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment, with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Dupont STOP safety program strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA General Industry Standards, Workers Compensation, and other related governmental regulations (ADA, EEO, etc)
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, initiation, and resolution skills
  • Experience developing and performing Health and Safety related training programs
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to lead and positively promote a safety focused work environment.
  • Solid proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook)
  • Desire to work in a team based work environment, promoting lean manufacturing principles.
  • Willingness to travel as business needs dictate.
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish a plus.

Environmental Health and Safety Manager Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk and hear. 
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but hearing protection may be required in certain areas of the facilities.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
