CNC Machinist Overall Purpose of Position

The CNC Machinist programs, sets up, and operates CNC machinery and manual mills, lathes, and other shop equipment.  

CNC Machinist Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Sets up, adjusts and operates all types of basis and advanced tools to machine parts to print. Operates machines within close tolerances
  • Selects proper tooling and materials and applies knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics. Machines both metallic and nonmetallic materials
  • Performs other shop related duties as required. Performs machinery maintenance functions such as daily lubrication, chip removal, and the cleaning of machines, table, surrounding area
  • Supports metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties and mathematics

CNC Machinist Skills and Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in the operation and set-up of CNC mills, lathes, and other related shop equipment
  • Ability to machine parts from prints and maintain all tolerances
  • Understanding of proven machining techniques to prolong tool life and minimize equipment repair
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work alone and in a team environment
