Tooling Engineer Overall Purpose of Position

General Maintenance maintains machines and building, this may include machine repairs, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and other repairs. Pm's and predictive maintenance. Do all safety checks daily. Fill out all safety forms. Environmental, light maintenance, work orders, P.M.

Tooling Engineer Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the timely and cost-effective introduction of new tooling projects
  • Manage tooling budget, initiate action to identify and resolve problems, and ensure cavity replacement goals are met
  • Assist team with technical support on all tooling related initiatives
  • Prepare and deliver formal presentations to customers and organizational leadership
  • Develop and implement tooling standards
  • Develop tooling designs, methods, and concepts
  • Advocate and process external and internal Engineering Change Requests and ensure required documentation is kept current
  • Develop and select outside tool services and tooling components
  • Advise tool designers and toolmakers
  • Develop and implement objective quality evidence for tooling repairs and/or modifications
  • Furnish quality acceptance specification and advice to management, quality control, and manufacturing
  • Lead and direct tool tryout with production control, engineering and quality
  • Organize and maintain CAD tool model database
  • Champion all tooling related activities during product launches
  • Review current/past prints and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Provide tooling quote revisions to management
  • Review tool applications with the customer
  • Provide tooling problem solving and trouble-shooting to assist manufacturing in meeting efficiency and quality goals
  • Clarify customer requirements and changes on present products with the customer, quality assurance, and manufacturing
  • Coordinate tooling and/or program transfers
  • Review capital equipment and tooling for prospective jobs
  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental, and departmental expectations
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Tooling Engineer Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years experience in tooling design and development in the manufacturing sector
  • Associates Degree or Journeyman Tool & Die certification required; Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • Team oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing process flow
  • Strong computer skills related to machine programming and digital communication
  • Effective root cause analysis/problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge and experience with GD&T required
