Manufacturing Engineer Manager Overall Purpose of Position

The Manufacturing Engineer Manager will provide leadership and technical expertise in plant layout, lean process flow, equipment selection, tooling, standard labor analysis, time studies, material flow, ergonomics, and waste elimination to ensure optimal efficiency in manufacturing operations. 

Manufacturing Engineer Manager Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensures all business critical projects are properly planned, scheduled, and on track
  • Analyzes and supervises engineering project flow and work to eliminate constraints which inhibit projects from timely completion
  • Supports manufacturing engineering functions (process, tooling, equipment and industrial engineering) by directly executing engineering projects and any design, analysis, testing or reporting required
  • Effectively understands and analyzes team members' technical skills, potential, personality characteristics, and motivators using that information to place them in roles which link their strengths to improved business performance
  • Ensures the manufacturing engineering teams are adequately and currently trained as both technical experts and as professionals
  • Directs daily activities of manufacturing engineering related project teams
  • Ensures executive management is adequately informed in order to make decisions which will lead to the successful execution of business critical projects
  • Plans and oversees layout of equipment and production facilities
  • Conducts studies in manufacturing facilities to maximize work flow and utilization of space and equipment
  • Perform cycle time analysis, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve work methods
  • Work with plant leadership teams to improve productivity, quality and throughput
  • Guides, develops, implements and promotes the Company's goals and objectives, guiding operational teams in effectively measuring and achieving targets
  • Coaches, trains, and develops hourly associates using technical expertise, lean manufacturing principles and standard operating procedures
  • Establishes priorities and sequences for manufacturing products including one-piece flow, waste elimination, TPM, standardized work, synchronized operations, value stream mapping, visual management and Kaizen
  • Other duties as assigned

Manufacturing Engineer Manager Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to lead and develop technical personnel
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills
  • Ability to independently coordinate and direct manufacturing engineering related functions (process, tooling, equipment and industrial engineering)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to foster teamwork, cooperation and consensus building
  • Detail oriented and precise with excellent organization skills
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD technologies
  • Strong computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office products, ability to develop effective presentations and working knowledge of ERP (QAD or Axapta preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree with three to six years of Industrial Engineering in a JIT manufacturing environment
  • Strong mathematical skills, such as probability and statistical interference, with the ability to manipulate data and generate reports in Microsoft Excel and statistical software packages
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
