Custodian Overall Purpose of Position
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the main office, North Building, Kitchen, Chem. Lab, Sample Area, Environmental and the factory personnel offices following NEC procedures/practices. This position is also responsible for maintaining clean restrooms and general cleaning of these areas (including windows, walls, floors, etc).
Custodian Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
- Cleans, dusts, and wipes furniture; sweeps, mops or vacuums floors; empties/cleans wastebaskets and trash containers; empties cigarette urns; replaces light bulbs; refills restroom dispensers.
- Assists with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
- Washes walls and equipment; uses ladders when required in work assignments.
- Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies and uses as directed.
- Moves furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis.
- Washes accessible interior and exterior windows.
- Pick up mail when required.
Custodian Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in the custodial field desirable.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning methods is beneficial.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
