Domed Aluminum Inserts
Novelty items give the opportunity for themes to carry over from television cartoons to every day life. Providing you have the permission to use a licensed image, this can be a fun, limited edition way to get attention for your product. These combination locks are a great example - the Looney Tunes characters were translated into production friendly artwork and then printed onto aluminum using process color. Since the parts fit into a recessed area of the lock knob height to bring everything flush was needed. This was solved by adding Norlens - a doming process using clear urethane. Using an existing die, the customer was able to cost effectively offer this line of locks without incurring additional tooling expense.
