Blank on Tape
Appliques supplied on a roll refers to the process in which an aluminum part is applied with a press onto a roll of adhesive tape. This process is most often utilized with high-volume orders and small parts. Aluminum or norlens products are most commonly used materials. The roll sizes of 6” or 12” does limit the material choice and size of the part, but there are several benefits to choosing this process over traditional supply methods. These benefits include:
> convenience in the shipping process> cost savings> ease of assembly> containment of the product> adhesive options> lesser chance for rejected items
Specific industries that most commonly use the applique on a roll process include cosmetics and electronics.

Doming Process on a Gear Shift Knob Insert
The doming process used on this gear shift knob highlights the metal finish creating a focal point. The brushed aluminum background is printed with the logo and then layered with norlens, a doming process. The norlens process is a simple, cost-effective way to provide durability and shine to an otherwise ordinary piece. While this technique is popular on labels, it provides an unigue look when formed making this design pop.

This is another article in a series of posts featuring notes from my co-workers on their favorite nameplate. This article illustrates the unique perspective that each of us look at the world through. The crispness of the nameplate Vicky chose caught her attention.
Rugged. Durable. Tough. These words come to mind when I think about the SKB Case nameplate. It is a perfect size, due to its ability to show the brand name without a person having to be right on top of the end product to see it. The emboss is crisp and gives a die cast look.

In addition to being fashionable, fragrance packaging must also catch the eye. Use of innovative materials such as aluminum is one way for brands to differentiate from competitors. The Abercrombie and Fitch perfume package incorporates a bright aluminum appliqué into the bottle design to coordinate with the polished chrome bottle cap. The anodized appliqué features etched graphics which create a tactile silver-on-silver look. The sophisticated, simple style of this design appeals to modern, young women.

This article is the third in a series featuring three-dimensional embossing on aluminum. The example shown here is from one of our aluminum holiday cards. It highlights the effective use of a blind emboss. A blind emboss utilizes the same finish on the embossed graphics and the background for a subtle effect. The finish used here is an anodized gold surface. The text in this graphic is embossed in multiple layers giving the illusion of being placed one on top of another in layers. How would you use this type of emboss on a nameplate?

This article is part of a series of articles from my co-workers on their favorite nameplates. A little bit about me: I am from a small town in southwest Wisconsin, and I attended Viterbo University in La Crosse, where I graduated in May 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in marketing. I am currently at Viterbo University pursuing my master’s degree in business administration (MBA). I am very excited to bring my experiences and education to this position!
Over 6 processes are used on the Callaway nameplate for the x16 club to ensure competitors and counterfeiters cannot duplicate or imitate this unique product. The piece begins with the use of one-side-bright aluminum, upon which a transparent blue tint is applied. The small “x” watermark effect is achieved through the selective norbrush process. Embossing is used to create the recognizable graphics. Rivets are used from left to right to create the subtle pattern. Finally, the “Steelhead X-16” is diamond cut. Although I am not yet an avid golfer, I truly appreciate the distinct look we are able to create for the Callaway clubs.
