Quality Engineer Overall Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring all metrics for quality, delivery and cost for the organization are met and trending in the direction of continuous improvement. Proper production preparation, quality, time accuracy through the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives are key. Strong focus on process qualifications, product quality, and continuous improvement in responsible area working closely with other members of the organization and customers.

Quality Engineer Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Use practical problem solving tools such as RedX (Shainin), 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa (Fishbone) Diagrams, DMAIC process to identify root cause and corrective actions when addressing non-conforming product and/or materials
  • Perform data analysis required to identify and direct continuous improvement of processes and products
  • Lead or participate in root cause and corrective action activities to eliminate nonconforming product
  • Provide training in PPS methods and tools
  • Read, analyze, discuss and explain customer required specifications
  • Define practices and policies required to solve problems
  • Analyze nonconformance reports and customer returns to facilitate recommendations for corrective action
  • Apply and maintain quality procedures, quality plans, documents and work instructions in accordance with IATF/TS/ISO industry standards and customer requirements
  • Represent Quality in product development activities (i.e. APQP) to ensure all specifications are defined and adhered to, and quality related concerns are addressed
  • Implement procedures for methods of inspection, testing and evaluate the precision and accuracy of products
  • Interface with all internal departments, customers and suppliers regarding quality related items
  • Initiate and maintain the implementation and closure of corrective actions
  • Monitor and report overall customer satisfaction and metrics
  • Participate in the resolution and verification of corrective actions implemented to ensure root cause has been correctly identified and eliminated
  • Participate in audits (both internal and external) and develop reports based upon results
  • Meet with customers and suppliers as needed to assist in resolving quality issues and develop mutually agreed upon acceptance criteria / boundary samples
  • Maintain and apply quality documents, control plans, PFMEAs in accordance with AIAG, IATF, ISO and customer specifications
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops and trainings, reviewing professional publications, benchmarking best practices, and attending customer provided training
  • Others duties, tasks and projects as assigned


Quality Engineer Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree preferred (mechanical, industrial or manufacturing)
  • ISO 9001: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Manufacturing: 5 years (Preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of quality assurance programs and engineering methods and principles
  • Excellent communication skills and experience effectively interacting with people at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office - power user of Excel for statistical analysis
  • Six sigma and lean manufacturing experience beneficial
