Quality Engineer

Overall Purpose of Position

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring all metrics for quality, delivery and cost for the organization are met and trending in the right direction. Proper production preparation, quality, time accuracy, through the implementation of continuous improvements are key. Strong focus on process qualification, product quality, and continuous improvement in responsible areas working closely with other members of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Utilizes 3x5 Why, Fishbone and DMAIC approach to problem solving and non-conformances.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Participates in root cause corrective action activities to permanently eliminate defects
  • Reads, analyzes and discusses customer required specifications
  • Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies to determine appropriate action and to solve a variety of problems
  • Analyzes nonconforming reports, returned products and recommends corrective action
  • Applies and maintains quality procedures, quality plans, documents and work instructions in accordance with ISO9001/TS16949 industry standards and customer requirements
  • Participates in product development to assure all quality issues are addressed
  • Implements methods of procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products
  • Interfaces with all areas of the Company, its customers and suppliers on quality issues. Initiates and maintains the implementation and closure of corrective actions
  • Participates in the resolution of corrective actions and verifications of actions implemented
  • Develops reports based on inspection and audit results. Participates in audits from external sources
  • Adheres to the company's Quality and Safety Management Systems in accordance with its procedures and requirements


Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree (mechanical, industrial or manufacturing)
  • Thorough knowledge of quality assurance programs and engineering methods and principles
  • Excellent communication skills and experience effectively interacting with people at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office - power user of Excel for statistical analysis
  • Six sigma and lean manufacturing experience beneficial
