Plant Manager Overall Purpose of Position

Under the leadership of the General Manager, the Plant Manager will oversee plant activities in order to meet business objectives. The successful candidate will be accountable for all aspects of plant performance, and will ensure the attainment of objectives in the most cost effective manner consistent with quality requirements. The Plant Manager will manage all manufacturing related functions, directing and coordinating operations either personally or by delegating authority to key supervisors and subordinates.  

Plant Manager Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Guides, develops, implements and promotes the Company's goals and objectives, guiding operational teams in effectively measuring and achieving targets
  • Builds a strong culture of continuous product and process improvements through the application of appropriate problem solving tools and techniques
  • Develop annual budget with input from cross functional teams and audits monthly financials to ensure cost objectives are met
  • Coaches, trains, and develops associates using leadership skills, lean manufacturing principles and management techniques including high performance teams, empowerment, and standard operating procedures
  • Reviews production orders and schedules to ascertain product data such as type, quantity, and delivery schedules to ensure most efficient planning, scheduling and performance
  • Establishes priorities and sequences for manufacturing products including one-piece flow, waste elimination, TPM, standardized work, synchronized operations, value stream mapping, visual management, and Kaizen
  • Analyzes production and other operational reports to identify concerns, reacting quickly and effectively to mitigate problems, ensuring minimum delays and related unplanned costs
  • Ensures optimum equipment utilization and maintenance to maximize productivity and efficiency
  • Conducts daily production meetings to ensure goals and objectives are met, identifying areas of concern to develop effective action plans and countermeasures
  • Conducts root cause analysis and develops corrective actions to reduce scrap, rework, and improve overall quality and through-put
  • Monitors internal and external customer concerns, alerting departmental leads, and ensuring issues are appropriately addressed and closed
  • Carries out managerial responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, planning and assigning work, and evaluating performance
  • Manages the P&L for the manufacturing facility
  • Other duties as assigned

Plant Manager Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills

  • Detail oriented and precise with excellent organization skills
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office products, ability to develop effective presentations, and working knowledge of ERP (QAD or Axapta preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree with three to six years of experience managing a JIT manufacturing facility, preferably a Tier I OEM supplier environment
  • Successful record of leading a workforce of 200+ associates implementing lean manufacturing principles
  • Strong mathematical skills, such as probability and statistical inference, with the ability to manipulate data and generate reports in Microsoft Excel and statistical software packages
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
