Manufacturing Process Engineer Overall Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for developing, documenting and leading activities to optimize manufacturing processes in a cost effective manner, improving internal performance while meeting customer requirements and expectations.

Manufacturing Process Engineer Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with manufacturing and technical personnel to optimize processes to ensure quality, manufacturability, productivity and efficiencies
  • Provides clear and concise documented standard operating procedures and work instructions for processes
  • Partners with facilities personnel, maintenance staff and equipment suppliers to develop appropriate preventative maintenance programs for new and existing equipment
  • Observes processes and develops innovative solutions to solve problems and create continuous improvement ideas (i.e. cycle time improvement, scrap reduction)
  • Assists in the development and utilization of key reliability metrics to measure performance
  • Develop and present business cases with ROI on equipment changes and upgrades
  • Lead problem solving (root cause analysis) projects, identifying and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Assists other team members in meeting plant and company objectives
  • Creates and maintains a safe, ethical, goal orientated and team-based work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Manufacturing Process Engineer Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (manufacturing, mechanical or industrial)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment (Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive OEM supplier preferred)
  • Experience producing measurable savings in manufacturing process improvements
  • Lean manufacturing and problem solving experience(Six Sigma, RedX, Shainin)
  • Ability to lead process improvement initiatives, with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to define, explain and solve problems with minimal or no direction within all facets of the business environment 
  • Personal integrity and the ability to foster teamwork, cooperation and consensus building
  • Detail oriented and precise with excellent organization skills
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office products, ability to develop effective presentations and working knowledge of ERP (QAD or Axapta preferred)
  • Strong mathematical skills, such as probability and statistical inference, with the ability to manipulate data and generate reports in Microsoft Excel and statistical software packages 
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
