Benefits and Compensation Specialist Overall Purpose of Position

Under the leadership of the North American Director of Human Resources, the Benefits and Compensation Specialist will assist with the development, implementation, and administration of the total rewards package for associates. This will involve assisting with the development and implementation of compensation structures and benefits programs including medical, dental, life, disability and 401k. The Benefits and Compensation Specialist will lead projects, perform market analysis, and coordinate vendors and brokers.

Benefits and Compensation Specialist Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in creating compensation packages which meet associates' needs while controlling costs and remaining market competitive, reviews proposals, and makes recommendations regarding vendors and program offerings
  • Oversees vendor performance, proactively communicating expectations, and identifying areas for improvement
  • Uses advanced knowledge and expertise to provide day-to-day administration of the benefits plans including medical, dental, life, disability and 401k
  • Assists with determining plan design, program research and renewals
  • Implements associate wellness programs
  • Administers all associate benefits programs, including enrollments, participates in audits, and discrimination testing
  • Analyzes existing wage and compensation policies
  • Remains current regarding the full details of the benefits programs offered to associates, performs benefit orientation and annual open enrollment meetings
  • Coordinates and attends meetings with insurance companies, third party administrators, consultants, brokers, and other benefits vendors
  • Remains current with changing policies, technologies, services, and regulations (state and federal)
  • Prepares presentations, including coordination of renewal recommendations to executive leadership
  • Drives process improvement and documentation
  • Deploy effective communication strategies and success metrics
  • Other duties as assigned

Benefits and Compensation Specialist Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills
  • Detail oriented and precise with excellent organization skills
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of benefit contract language
  • Clear understanding of compliance requirements, and federal and state regulations such as ERISA, COBRA, ADA, Medicare and Social Security
  • Working knowledge of job analysis systems and compensation strategies, familiarity with various types of incentive and benefits programs
  • Strong computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office products, ability to develop presentations
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
  • Minimum of 5 years of benefits and compensation experience
  • Associate Degree required, Bachelor Degree preferred
